Sydney Festival Lauches Soundtrack Competition - MusicNSW

Sydney Festival is offering composers the opportunity to write a new soundtrack for the 2013 festival. The winning soundtrack will be used to promote the festival online, on air and in videos which will give the composer access to a broader audience-hundreds of thousands festival goers and fans.

In past years, the Sydney Festival soundtrack has featured a diverse collection of impressive artists and composers such as Sufjan Stevens, Kaki King, The Middle East and Beach House. On top of the honour of joining such an esteemed list of artists, the winner will walk away with a $5000 cash prize.

The Festival has lined up a judging panel led by Sydney Festival Director Lieven Bertels, with triple j’s Zan Rowe, Dan Zilber from FBi Radio, Ralph van Dijk from Eardrum Australia, and Sydney Festival 2012 alumni, singer/songwriter Megan Washington.

“This will be fun,” says Lieven Bertels. “I have a great passion for discovering new music, and even better when there is an opportunity to share it with a broader audience.  I can’t wait to start listening to the entries and discovering the gems!”

The winning piece can be in any style of genre but has to capture the essence of the festival, and reflect the festival’s motto-“This Is Our City In Summer”. If you choose include lyrical content, the lyrics must also include this motto, and you must submit an instrumental version too. Sydney Festival are encouraging artists from all levels to apply, however the soundtrack must be new and original, only created for the purpose of the competition, not already existing. Home recorded tracks are accepted but applicants must strive for the best audio quality they can deliver.

Entries are open now, closing 7 September. For details on how to enter, head here.
