Indent Announce 2013 Partnership Grant Recipients - MusicNSW

MusicNSW’s all ages project Indent are very excited because they have now selected the successful young event teams who will be recieving funding as part of our 2013 Indent Partnership Grants program! The Indent Partnership Grants provide young people with skills, resources and support to stage their own events, take control of their local all ages scene and present a stage for hundreds of young bands to showcase their outstanding talents.

The Indent Grant Partnership applicants consist of teams of young people between the ages of 12 and 25. This year Indent received 37 applications from young event teams across NSW, 21 of which are new event teams, meaning an increase of 29% in applicants since 2012.

This year Indent will fund 23 teams, dispersing a total of $60,000 of varying amounts per team. Of those funded, 61% are from regional areas and 39% are based in metro regions. As with last year, there are two grant categories to reflect the diversity of events that are being staged by young people across the state. The Grassroots Grants for entry level, small-scale local events, and the Events Development Grants, which are aimed at larger scale events by teams who have already successfully acquitted a Grass Roots Grant.

“MusicNSW is proud to support these fantastic Indent teams in 2013, and to be a part of an exciting rejuvenation of youth culture across NSW. These young people are creating events that address issues close to their hearts (we saw everything from events aimed at suicide awareness, to the integration of refugees into live music scenes), which goes to show how bright, motivated and talented the youth of Australia are, and the key role contemporary music plays in creating a sense of community and culture.” –Kirsty Brown, MusicNSW Executive Officer.

NSW Arts Minister George Souris said the State Government was a proud supporter of Indent, which encouraged young people to stage drug- and alcohol-free music events.

“Indent is an important program that empowers young people to learn more about the music industry with funding, support, resources and advice from industry professionals,” Mr Souris said.

“Indent is all about overcoming challenges, boosting self-esteem and creating employment opportunities, as well as providing young people with a creative outlet, Indent offers them the opportunity to build life-long skills.”

In addition to the Partnership grants, Indent will provide further assistance to young people wanting to break into the music and/or events industry through the annual Indent Open Day mini-conference set for National Youth Week in June, the recently launched X Festival: A DIY Guide To Running Music Events, and the continued annual workshop program.
