Have you got a great idea for an event? Have you been working on something but find that its time to grow and make it bigger? The Indent Partnership Grants Applications are now open, but this year there is a special twist. There are now two categories in which you can apply for grants: Grassroots Event Funding and Event Development Funding. Essentially the idea is the same: manage an all ages music event but the Grassroots Event Funding is aimed towards events and teams that are just starting out- those who are testing the waters, if you will. And the Event Development Funding is for more established events and teams- those who can grow their event and are able to push their ideas further. So head over to the Grants page and check out all the details- you can even download the application guidelines- these will help you immensely when lodging your application. Don't forget the closing date for applications is Thursday 5pm November 5, 2010. Only applications postmarked on or before this date will be accepted. 2011 Partnership Grants will be assessed late November and successful applicants notified on December 6, 2010. For more info, see the Grants page, or contact Meg via email at meg@musicnsw.com or by phone on (02) 9281 1600. * Picture: Mitch McMillan- Winner of Best Photography ISAAC Award, 2010. If you are an Australian recording artist whose music is being broadcast or you hold the copyright in recordings that are receiving airplay, then you may be able to share in licence fees collected by PPCA. Registration cut off for PPCA’s current distribution is 15 September 2010.

PPCA collects licence fees from over 50,000 businesses across Australia which play sound recordings (CD, digital downloads) and music videos. Each year, PPCA distributes the licence income collected, less administration expenses, to registered Australian recording artists and sound recording copyright owners (usually record labels). PPCA represents and pays featured Australian recording artists and record labels in the same way that APRA pays songwriters and publishers. Featured Australian recording artists may be able to share in licence fees collected by PPCA under the Artist Direct Distribution Scheme. But it’s essential that you register with PPCA before September 15 to be eligible for this year’s distribution. If you are already registered with PPCA, it is important that you notify us of all releases on which you are eligible to claim under the Artist Direct Distribution Scheme before September 15. Record labels do not notify us of artist releases or registrations – this is the artist’s responsibility. If you have released a CD within the past year and have not lodged your artist registrations, then any income that may have been earned for that release will be paid to your record label. Registering with PPCA is free and essential - If you’d like to check what artist registrations we have for you, please contact PPCA’s distribution team – we’ll be happy to help! Here’s what some Australian artists have to say about PPCA: “PPCA is a company that recording artists can rely on with confidence to collect income on our behalf when our music is played in public.” - Tania Kernaghan "PPCA pays recording artists in the same way that APRA pays songwriters and publishers. It's definitely a good idea to register with both, just to make sure all your rights as a recording artist and songwriter are being looked after." Stu Macleod - Eskimo Joe. “As an artist … it’s very important to know that my rights are being protected. I am registered with PPCA as an Australian Recording Artist and receive a direct payment each year that my songs receive airplay. If you are a signed artist or an independent, it is in your interest to see if PPCA can work for you.” – Melinda Schneider For more information, please contact: PPCA Distribution Team distribution.mail@ppca.com.au (02)8569 1133

Hombake Cancelled for 2010

Whilst this past weekend witnessed a state of political confusion, we concur that we've certainly had our fair share as well. That said and with such a plethora of festival announcements of late, we've decided to go against the grain and as such - after much deliberation (& some procrastination) - we here at Homebake festival HQ have decided to take a break and postpone Homebake Music, Film & Arts Festival for this year only, 2010. As we've not been able to have the 'planets align' to a standard we feel appropriate to the long standing reputation of Australia's largest 'locals only' event, we'd rather focus on a positive future and are instead planning for a unique return version of Homebake Festival to take place during the first week of December 2011. The intention is for Homebake to return proverbially 'bigger and better' than ever, incorporating even more facets of the antipodean arts industries & with special incentives in place for the few generations of thousands of loyal Homebake devotees whom have attended over the past 15 years. We ask you to stay tuned for now as we commence preparations for what will be the 16th Edition – Homebake Music, Film & Arts Festival, 2011. Huge thanks for your patience & we're looking forward to have you all join us to celebrate in 2011.
