Live Music Programming Coordinator Pilot Project - MusicNSW

The Live Music Office is looking for a highly skilled person with experience and networks in the live music industry across a broad range of venues, genres and programming types.

The Live Music Office, Music NSW and APRA AMCOS have partnered to deliver a 12 month pilot project to support the growth of the local live music industry through the appointment of a Live Music Programming Coordinator. This role will provide tailored site-specific guidance to both new and existing venues, ensuring that live music presented by business owners is appropriate to their space and business model.

Job Description

Reports to: On a day to day basis the Coordinator will report directly to the Live Music Office. Periodically the Coordinator will be required to meet with the Pilot Steering Committee, consisting of representatives from Live Music Office, Music NSW, APRA AMCOS and representatives of government funding partners the City of Sydney, Leichhardt Municipal Council and Marrickville Council.

Contract term: 12 months part time 0.6 full time equivalent position – Flexible 3 days per week.

Key responsibilities and accountability:

1. Work with Live Music Office and Music NSW to develop and implement a 12 week pilot business advice program focused on the introduction or optimisation of live music and performance programming. The program will include best-practice advice on topics such as:

  • Live music production, including equipment, sound and staging options
  • Connecting with the music community, building partnerships and booking talent
  • Ticketing
  • Marketing, promotion and audience development
  • Licensing, administration and financial management
  • Engaging with all-ages or underage audiences
  • Other information resources

2. Working one-on-one with a range of business types to deliver three rounds of the 12-week program across the pilot period, engaging eight businesses in each round. In addition to the provision of bespoke advice as described above, the role will be responsible for:

  • Introducing and facilitating relationships with artist agents and booking agencies suitable to the aims and resources of the business
  • Facilitating relationships with government stakeholders, where required.
  • Working with businesses as they implement programming or programming changes

3. Project monitoring and data reporting to the Project Steering Committee will be collated across the three terms for evaluation through a research position paper developed by the Live Music Office.

Working territory:

The role covers new and existing venues in the following local government areas:

  • City of Sydney
  • Marrickville
  • Leichhardt

Requirements:

  • Conduct themselves in a way that is aligned with the pilot’s purpose, values and personality.
  • Comply with all APRA AMCOS policies including the requirements of the Employee Code of Conduct.
  • Work with, develop positive relationships with, communicate with and coordinate activities with representatives from the pilot’s steering committee.
  • Present a professional image and be professional in all dealings with staff and external business contacts.
  • Some out of hours work may be required from time-to-time.
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence essential with use of own vehicle.

Specific Job Skills and Experience:

The preferred candidate will:

  • Have demonstrated project management skills and experience, and be capable of planning, delivering and reporting on three 12 week business advice programs.
  • Be able to demonstrate understanding and experience in the principles of live music programming including production, building partnerships and booking talent, ticketing, marketing, promotion and audience development, licensing, administration and financial management.
  • The applicant must be capable of implementing a project structure based on three 12 week programs incorporating eight venues across the three local government areas.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write briefing notes and reports for the Pilot Steering Committee.
  • Understands the principles of live music including artist booking, venue development, production knowledge, regulatory experience, marketing and social media.
  • Professional experience of venue management, live music performance or artist booking is an advantage.

Computer skills: Must be adept in use of MS Office 2000 or later, particularly Excel and Word, social media platforms and have a mobile phone number and email address.

Business Skills: Must be an excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator, and able to demonstrate experience and success in managing projects and outcomes.

Management Ability: The role is a standalone position requiring self-direction delivering an outlined program with set KPI’s.
