Each year, just prior to the SXSW Music Conference, Austrade’s Australian Music Office holds an informal meeting of people heading to SXSW in Austin, Texas.
If you are not going to SXSW this year but want to learn more about it, you are also welcome to come along.
Meet fellow artists and industry, hear practical tips on doing business at SXSW as well as how to survive one of the biggest events in the world. We will be linking up live via video conference to Peter Coehen in the Australian Music Office Los Angeles. Peter will introduce the following guest speakers to discuss their approach to SXSW
- Kevin Carvel – A&R Rep, A&M/Octone Records (Maroon 5, Flyleaf, Hollywood undead)
- Todd Cooper – Music Attorney, Greenburg, Traurig, LLP (Incubus, Katy Perry, LMFAO)
- Other guests include Inmedia’s (SXSW Australian rep) Jessica Kalucy, and the AMO’s own Ms Tomoko Ichikawa live from Austrade Tokyo

Whichway and MusicNSW is proud to announce it’s 2010 Advanced Indigenous Musician Development Workshop.
Whichway will hos an intensive workshop series for emerging Indigenous musicians wanting to take there music career one step further. Held over an extended weekend from March 26 – 29 at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) in Redfern, the workshops invites artists across all genres to register their interest.
The workshops will cover essential practical and industry skills necessary to make it in the industry today. Sessions will involved practical workshops, performance masterclasses, interactive discussions and demonstrations from industry professionals and established musicians including members of THE LAST KINECTION and THE HERD.
The workshops are free to participate in and are targeted at passionate artists committed to their music, and wanting to improve their knowledge and skills. Artists who have participated in the Whichway Introduction Workshops are encouraged to apply.

Bring It is a project of Music NSW, the state service organisation for the support and development of the contemporary music industry. With financial support from both Arts NSW and the Federal Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, Music NSW was able to roll out this unique recording project focused on South and South Western Sydney, which included a region-wide call out for young artists to submit material that explored cultural cohesion, peace, unity and respect.
Live performances on the day feature Kwits Crew, Purple Haze, Oxey, DJ Skae and DJ Sina. We will be giving away copies of the Bring It CD so get there early.

- hear from successful ArtStart recipients how they are using ArtStart to fertilise their careers

The Ian Potter Cultural Trust seeks to encourage the diversity and excellence of emerging artists in Australia. The Trust makes grants of up to $7,000 to early career artists practising in a wide range of disciplines within the arts, including the performing and visual arts, crafts, music, the media, literature, design, community arts and other areas.
