Australian Youth Music Council - MusicNSW

The Australian Youth Music Council (AYMC) is launching its online presence during National Youth Week, the national celebration of young people and their contribution in Australia. The new website, www.aymc.org.au aims to engage young people across the nation, networking artists and industry professionals.

The current Chair of the AYMC, 27 year old Sydney-based jazz drummer Alex Masso, says the website will be “a hub for the variety of information out there relevant to young people in music.  It will bridge the gap between information on youth participation, youth arts and music and of course youth involvement in the activities of the Music Council of Australia. It’s also a home for our own activities and will provide news and resources for young musicians.”

The Australian Youth Music Council (AYMC), formed in 2009, is committed to the development of young Australians in music across a diverse range of genres and fields. “It was designed as the youth voice of the Music Council of Australia, which is already well established and effective in furthering the cause of music in Australia and Internationally” explains Masso.

Its nine members come from a number of states and have backgrounds in classical music, contemporary and popular music, hip hop, jazz, experimental music and music theatre as well as artist management, ensemble leadership, education and arts administration and management. Its objectives include furthering the diversity of music made by young people, facilitating youth participation in the music sector, providing practical support and guidance for young musicians, and advocating for the value of music in young people’s lives.

Working in tandem with the Music Council of Australia, AYMC members will form a common platform for the variety of musical ventures in which young people are active. The Council aims to enrich music education, support artists and organizers from every field in their pursuit of a career and in their enjoyment of music in all its forms.

AYMC can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.
