Mind Over Matter, consisting of Willow and Smiles Again, are known for their charismatic word play and tireless touring schedule. Three releases deep with their fourth release, Just Like Fireworks, around the corner, Mind Over Matter are set to continue to flourish within the Australian music industry and beyond.
What was the first band you saw live?
Jurassic 5 and the Roots at the Hordern Pavillion, 2005. I think.
What’d you learn from them?
Not a whole lot, because I was 15 and never thought of ever performing myself.
Got any pre-gig rituals?
Warm up our voices, then Jäger bombs to give ourselves a bit of a rev up, then its show time!
What do you think the most important issue facing artists in NSW is?
Well, it seems that there aren’t nearly enough rural shows being played. Therefore, making it tough for less-established artists who live outside the city to gig close to where they live, successfully. However, I understand why this is the case. That and how much it costs to fly to WA, are the issues facing artists.
If you weren’t a musician, what do you reckon you’d be doing?
Without a doubt, youth work at the refuge I currently work at, casually.
