Donny Benét - MusicNSW

Fresh from inking a deal with Sydney based indie Rice Is Nice, Donny Benét – solo artist and son of Antonio Giacomelli Benét, the famous Italian disco accordionist, sat down and answered our questions.

What was the first band you saw live?
The band my father played in -The Conca Dora Show band- it’s an Italian wedding band. They used to let me sit-in in the “modern” set.

What’d you learn from them?
That accordion and slap bass work very well together in any style of music.

Got any pre-gig rituals?
Listening to Alan Vega’s Every 1’s a winner in my car while eating some kind of junk food.

What do you think the most important issue facing artists in NSW is?
Too many poker machines in venues. bring back live music and you’ll bring back girls who like to dance. easy really…

If you weren’t a musician, what do you reckon you’d be doing?
That’s an easy one! I’d work in the airport driving the baggage cart.
