Arts Minister Peter Garrett has announced the five indigenous music groups to recieve funding to record a ‘high quality’ and ‘broadcast standard’ EP or CDÂ to be used to target commerical radio. NSW artist Microwave Jenny (Wagga Wagga), Street Warriors (Newcastle) and the Stiff Gins from Sydney were amongst the five named through the pilot

Sydney’s The Deer Republic have taken out the first uncharTED competition for 2009 to play at Splendor in the Grass. The coveted competition also includes a $25,000 career development package.
ARTIST APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR AWME 2009
The Australasian World Music Expo (AWME) returns to the Arts Centre in Melbourne this year from 19-22 November and is now calling for applications from artists who wish to showcase in front of AWME’s select audience of international and national music industry delegates. Applications close Friday July 24.

Groundswell tour applications now open
The Groundswell Indigenous Music Touring Project are now accepting applications for it’s inaugral year. The Groudswell is an opportunity for three Indigenous artists (solo or groups) who come from NSW, QLD or VIC for a three week tour of the east coast of Australia. Closing date for applications is Monday the 20th of July.

One of Australia’s largest music retailer JB Hi Fi have stopped selling CD Singles, citing single track downloads as the cause for the fall in sales. Only 300 units were sold of the top number ones in JB Hi Fi which will see the timley demise of the CD Single.
