Support Act First Nations Tax Help
Support Act offers a Tax Help program for eligible artists and music workers who need support with overdue tax returns or building financial literacy. As an extension of its crisis relief services, approved participants are referred to trusted accounting partners to prepare and lodge outstanding returns with the ATO, an important step for accessing government support and maintaining financial wellbeing. The service is free, and once approved, participants are expected to work with the accountant to complete their returns within three months.
ATO Indigenous Helpline - 131030 - Offers free, culturally appropriate help with tax and superannuation. The ATO Indigenous helpline is a dedicated support service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. While the staff may not all identify as Indigenous, they are experienced in providing culturally informed assistance. They can support you with things like applying for a Tax File Number (TFN), lodging your tax return, or locating your superannuation. You can contact the Indigenous helpline on 13 10 30. It’s helpful to have your TFN or Australian Business Number (ABN) ready when you call. To keep your information safe, you’ll be asked a few identity questions before they can assist you.
Reach Out - Indigenous business support program
Reach Out is the ATO’s First Nations business support program that works with First Nations small businesses to help them meet their tax and superannuation obligations. Key support centres on improving business and financial awareness for business, making it easier for them to take part in the tax and super systems, providing tailored support and education to build their business and financial literacy and also to understand their management of their obligations.
Revenue NSW First Nations Team - 1800 002 345 - Providing culturally safe and respectful support, Revenue NSW can connect you with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Support Officer to yarn through your situation, explore options to help you move forward. We’ll guide you through each step of the process and check in along the way, while also linking you with Aboriginal Advisory Services and other support if you’re facing financial or legal challenges. We can also support organisations to become advocates or Work and Development Order (WDO) sponsors, and work alongside communities to develop action plans and strategies to address fines and debt.
