2024 Regional Tours: A Look Back

MusicNSW

As MusicNSW’s Regional Tours returned for the second time in 2024, 14 acts based in regional NSW hit the road over Spring, playing venues in the Central West, to the Riverina, the Far South Coast and the Northern Rivers.

This year’s program featured five distinct tours, each with its own character, region and sound - a reflection of just how musically diverse regional NSW really is:

Golden Highway Tour - Joey Leigh Wagtail + Felicity Dowd

The Golden Highway Tour made stops throughout Wiradjuri & Wonnarua Country, playing shows at Crossroads Bar in Dubbo, Royal Hotel in Merriwa & closing out the tour at the Dashville Skyline Festival. Together, the touring artists wove together performances soaked in folk, blues & country sounds.

The Outback Tour - Liquid Culture + Baedan Faint + Megan Woods

Three acts brought psychedelic grooves & lush country musings to the Far West, performing at Cobar Bowling & Golf Club, Wilcannia Golf Club and The Palace Hotel in Broken Hill.

River Tour - Elle Flanagan + Zara Lindeman + Isaac Staines

This tour brought three singer-songwriters together to play iconic venues in the Riverina region, including The Curious Rabbit in Wagga Wagga, Storyteller: The Baron’s Tasting House in Deniliquin and Beer Deluxe in Albury.

Yuin Nation Tour - Ron Callaghan, Chelsy Atkins + Richard Luland

A tour bridging the diverse sounds & storytelling of three First Nations artists, the Yuin Nation Tour invited audiences across the South Coast into a world of country, rhythm & blues, pop & rock.

The Winding North Tour - Bella Frankie + Kirsty Larkin + Ollie Twohill

Raw emotion and stories of love, loss & community soundtracked The Winding North Tour, taking over Howl & Moan Records in Byron Bay, Eltham Hotel and the Black Gully Music Festival in Armidale.

What the Tours are built to do

These tours provide artists based in regional areas the chance to get real touring experience under their belt, connect with new audiences and forge relationships with venues.

As then-Regional Manager Ali Buckley put it when the 2024 acts were announced: the tours support the activation of new tour routes and industry collaboration through partnerships with regional festivals and local promoters. The tours offer artists the opportunity to build new audiences, develop industry relationships and hone their touring skills with support from our team.
