Outset Western Sydney: Youth Committee Applications open

Are you 15-25 and living in Western Sydney? Do you dream of putting on your own gigs, working behind the scenes at shows, or building the kind of music spaces you want to see in your community? 

Applications are now open for our Outset Youth Committee, a new opportunity for Western Sydney’s live music producers of tomorrow.

Guided by industry pros and inspirational DIY promoters, 10  young people will be selected to work together and create their own all ages gig.

The Youth Committee will receive hands-on experience in curating and producing gigs in DIY environments and learn how to build real connections and community through all ages gigs. They will be mentored by:

Key details on workshops

Workshops will be held on Thursday, 16 & Friday, 17 July at Common House Studio, Glendenning.

DAY 1 - CURATION & LOGISTICS: 

  • Angie Osman will run a workshop on curation and programming, showing the Youth Committee the process of booking artists for an event and curating a cohesive lineup.
  • Thomas Huynh will then take the Youth Committee through logistics and budget, showing them how to process invoices, book equipment, and tackle all of the numbers with ease.
DAY 2 - BRANDING & MARKETING: 
  • Dillon Fernando will go through branding and story, showing the Youth Committee how to create a unique brand identity and ways to communicate a story to your audience.
  • Yağmur will close with a workshop on marketing, showing the Youth Committee effective tips & tricks to promote their event.

Each day will run for an estimated 4-5 hours, with a break in between. Food and drink will be provided.

Applications close: 11:59pm on Wednesday, 1 July 2026

Successful applicants notified: By 7 July

The official Outset event will take place in Western Sydney in October, with the date, venue and lineup to be confirmed in collaboration with the Youth Committee.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Does it cost anything to participate?

No, the program is free to apply for and participate in. Some travel costs can be subsidised for selected participants in the Youth Committee.

Who can apply for the Youth Committee?

Applications are open to people who are:

  • Aged 15 - 25 years
  • Based in Western Sydney, South West and Greater West
  • Passionate about live music and exploring a career in the music industry
  • Ready to collaborate and commit to a program that’s hands-on and rewarding
  • Keen to learn how to make music events happen, without needing a huge budget or venue

What should I do if I am unavailable for a workshop date?

We encourage applicants who are interested in the workshops to ensure they are able to attend all four workshops held across two days at Common House Studio on 16 & 17 July.

Meet the Mentors

ANGIE OSMAN
Founder (Blush Hour)

Angie Osman is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Western Sydney, spanning creative direction, event curation, DJing, and more – with a deep investment in local music and the artists shaping it. She is the founder of Blush Hour and Cielo Studio, and has built platforms dedicated to spotlighting up & coming talent by creating space for emerging voices to experiment, grow, and be celebrated.

DILLON FERNANDO
Director (Hotter Out West)

Dillon Fernando is a director who works across music videos, artist rollouts, commercials, short films and events, creating honest and emotionally grounded stories that explore the human condition. Through his work with Hotter Out West, he has helped platform emerging artists and creatives across Sydney through community-led events and campaigns, championing the belief that where you come from should never define where you can go.

THOMAS HUYNH 
Events Curator (Dog Days)

Thomas Huynh is a Sydney based events curator, promoter, and operations professional who's spent over a decade embedded in the city's nightlife and music scene. As co-curator of Dog Days, he's built a platform for emerging local DJs and artists, hosting events across a rotating cast of Sydney venues that speaks to the breadth of the city's culture. Outside of Dog Days, Thomas serves as Head of Operations and Logistics at Your Shot, where he oversees large-scale event production and logistics.

Content Creator/Music Marketing (Nothing On In Sydney)

Yağmur is the creator behind ‘Nothing On In Sydney’ - an online series cutting through the noise to show that there's plenty happening in Sydney if you know where to look. After quitting her corporate role to go solo travelling, Yağmur decided to channel years of experience in the marketing industry into creating content about Sydney’s nightlife and the Australian music industry.
