AIR Award Nominees announced - MusicNSW

Continuing on into the awards season the Australian Independent Records Association (AIR) of Australia have announced the nominees for the 2009 Jagermeister AIR Awards, the Awards honor the quality and diversity of music made by Australian artists, released by Australian owned independent record companies and distributed through Australian owned distribution companies.

Best Indepdendent Artists contendors cover the pop princess – SIA, bluesmen – C.W. Stoneking, global sensations – Dappled Cities, breakthrough sensation – Bertie Blackman, and critical darlings – The Drones.

Sia and Berte Blackman are also in the running for Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year, against Oh Mercy, Art vs. Science and the John Steel Singers.

Bertie Blackmans nominations continue with a Jagermeister Best Independent Album of the Year Award, also against Dappled Cities, C.W Stoneking, The Drones and Decoder Ring as well as a nomination for her single Heart against Art Vs. Science, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Architecure in Helsinki and Sia.

Adam Brand, Amber Lawrence, James Blundell, Kirsty Lee Akers, and Tania Kernaghan are all up for Best Independent Country Album while under contention for Best Blues and Roots album is C.W. Stoneking, The Waifs, Ash Grunwalkd, Bonjah and Carus Thompson.

The nominees for Best Independent Hard Rock/Punk Album include Closure in Moscow, I killed the Prom Queen, Mammal, The Amity Affliction and The Nation Blue.

Hermitude and Astronomy Class (also up for an ARIA) are against Funkoars, Gully Platoon, and Pez for the Best Independent Hip Hop/Urban Album.
