On The Radar

Newcastle isn't short of fresh, exciting music storytellers. But getting that story out into the world takes more than great music.

Join Ruby Miles and Ella Avni – two of the creative minds behind Laneway Festival's programming and content – for an honest conversation about what it takes to break through in the current Australian music scene. They'll share what grabs their attention, what doesn't, and where emerging artists can find their community beyond Newcastle.

Then, Ruby and Ella will give live, in-depth advice on a curated selection of music submissions from artists in the room – breaking down what's working, what could be stronger, and what the next steps look like. The session closes with a listening party and rapid-fire feedback segment, where more submissions will receive a quick response, and the floor opens up to attendees who want a chance to be part of the conversation. This is an opportunity for artists to ask specific questions, note down innovative marketing ideas and get involved in meaningful discussion.

Light canapes will be available, as well as a gin spritz upon entry and other drink specials.

How to get involved

If you would like to receive some advice from Ruby & Ella on your music and its next steps, you can submit a link to your song (released/unreleased) via the Humanitix checkout (Spotify, Bandcamp, Dropbox, GDrive etc). Please note: music submissions are kept to 1 per artist, and submission does not mean inclusion. All submissions will be curated by Newcastle Coordinator, Joab Eastley.
