How to Create an Invoice

Introduction

For musicians and creatives, knowing how to create a professional invoice is a fundamental skill. Whether you’re getting paid for a gig, recording session or another fee for service, the invoice is the document that formalises the transaction and triggers payment to you.

A clear invoice establishes what was delivered, when, how much the fee is and how to pay. It signals to bookers, venues and others that you operate professionally.

Invoices are also important at tax time. Each nvoice you issue becomes a record of your income, which is essential for accurate tax reporting, GST obligations (if you're registered), and demonstrating earnings.

A well-maintained invoicing process gives you that paper trail without scrambling at the end of the financial year.
