Introduction

As musicians find themselves in such a wide variety of work situations, from playing backrooms for beers (common) to touring the world with Radiohead (uncommon), giving general tax advice is quite difficult. However, in this guide we’ve attempted to cover a variety of situations and give you some basic information with which to arm yourself.

The following is a guide on how to approach the numbers side of the music business and how to help you help yourself when it comes to running your business. In this guide, we’ll run you through things like business structure, business registration, record keeping, GST, income and more.
